本書は，一桥大学経済研究所とウィーン国際経済研究所が共同実施した国際研究プロジェクトの主要成果を収めたものです。ロシアや中東欧諸国は，2008年のリーマンショックから2014年のクリミヤ紛争に至る一連の国際危機によって，経済的に大きなダメージを被りました。しかし，その様相は必ずしも詳らかではありません。本プロジェクトでは，経済研究所とウィーン国際経済研究所のスタッフに，日本，チェコ，ハンガリー，ポーランド，ロシアの経済学者らを加え，約3年の歳月をかけて，この問題に取り組みました。本書の構成は，次の通りです。
